Aikido, Judo and Jujitsu martial arts training in Naperville
Martial Arts Training Service has a 20 year long history of teaching adults and children. At MATS students can train in three different Japanese Martial Arts disciplines:
Danzan Ryu Jujitsu
Students coming from 15 different countries train regularly together to improve their fitness and martial arts skills, to learn self defense, at the same time strengthening body and mind.
Many parents train together with their children in a family friendly atmosphere supported by a flexible training schedule providing training opportunities five days a week.
In addition to these we offer every Sunday Morning (8:15am) a Zazen
(Sitting Meditation) class to interested Adults.
The Martial Arts Training Service was established in 1992 by Maureen Browne and John Gussman to propagate the arts of Jujitsu, Judo and Aikido. MATS opened on Nov. 6th of that year and provided a training facility for 25 members of the Fox Valley Judo and Jujitsu Club. In December the Fox Valley Aikikai was established when the first Aikido classes were offered at MATS.
MATS was originally located on the corner of Route 59 and 75th Street in Aurora. Mats remained at that location for ten years, then moved to its current location at 550 Industrial Drive in 2003.
In 1994 the Fox Valley Aikikai affiliated with T. K. Chiba Sensei and is currently a member dojo of Birankai NA. In 2000 the Fox Valley Judo and Jujitsu club joined the Shoshinryu Yudanshakai which recognizes all of the DanZan Ryu Jujitsu promotions at MATS.
The Kodokan Judo program at MATS has been a member dojo of USA Judo since 1992. Over the years MATS has offered classes in Seido Karate, Kendo, Kung Fu, Tae Kwondo, Kenpo Karate, Gracie Jujitsu and Iaido in addition to its core curriculum of Judo, Jujitsu, and Aikido. Hundreds of students have trained at MATS over the years.
Maureen and John continue to instruct the classes at MATS assisted by their Black Belt instructors they have trained and developed.
MATS today has a mat size of around 100 Tatami that gives students ample of space to train in a safe environment. The dojo also features changing rooms for man and women as well as dedicated parking space in front of the facility.
